The ill-fated yellow boat is brought back ashore from Lake Albert

At least nine people have been killed and 21 others are missing as a boat carrying a football team and its supporters on Lake Albert in western Uganda capsized on Sunday.

Of the 45 people who were on board, 15 people definitely survived, so it is feared that the death toll will eventually reach 30.

Authorities of the National Agency For Food and Drug Administration NAFDAC, yesterday addressed a joint press conference with officials of the Nigeria Customs Service NCS, where the final result on tests carried out on the "Plastic Rice" seized by some Customs officers in Lagos(read here), was released. The police in Lagos state yesterday arraigned 21-year-old Cameroonian, Ledjou Kouemou, before an Ebute Metta Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly stabbing his boss and bride-to-be, Dayo Adeleke, to death at her residence in Parkview estate, Lagos on December 20th.

The Nigerian man accused of kidnapping and raping a 12-year-old girl in Mamelodi, South Africa was on Thursday denied bail in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court.

Augustine Obono, 36, is also facing a charge of human trafficking, which could see him having to pay a R100 million fine or face life in prison if convicted.
The State, led by advocate Andrew Mphaga, opposed his bail application. The investigating officer, Constable Mapule Mahlaba, submitted an affidavit detailing why the accused should be denied bail.
