At least 90 migrants are thought to have died when their rickety boat broke apart in the Mediterranean sea after leaving the Libyan coast, the Libyan Navy said.
The boat which was made of rubber, began to tear and fill with water about 26 miles off the Libyan coast, a spoke person for the navy, Ayoub Gassim, said.
The libyan coast guard rescued 29 survivors, who said most of the passengers on the boat were africans, Mr,Gassim said.
The migrants left Tajoura, in western Libya before dawn on Wednesday, and the coast guard received a call for help around 3pm that day.
The death toll for migrants at the Mediterranean has reached at least 3800 so far this year making it the deadliest year for migrants at sea. People fleeing war and poverty take the dangerous journey from Libya to Italy on overcrowded boats, hoping to make their way in new lives in Europe.
