Syrian Rebels Opens major counter-offensive amid siege of Aleppo.

Syrian rebels launches intense artillery and suicide attacks as part of a possible last ditch offensive announced Friday seeking to break the governments siege of opposition controlled districts of Aleppo.

The assault appears to be a desperate bid to hang onto eastern aleppo, a key northern city that has become the most important battleground in Syria's civil war as pro-government forces attempts to crush the one of the last main opposition strongholds

Syrian president Bashar al-Assad's government and Allied forces, aided by Russia have faced international outrage for the attacks on Aleppo after a cease fire plan collapsed earlier this month.

A bombardment and blockage  has deprived more than 200,000 people in rebel areas there of food and medicine, and threaten to deal the broader rebellion.

Islamic rebels, including fighters linked to Al-qaeda, have a played a key role in the fight over Aleppo. But their presence has introduced political complication.
